Mary Catherine Marker (Williams) (Sonafrank)
Mary Catherine Marker is the daughter of Susan Catherine Linebaugh and John Marker, who was raised by her stepfather Josiah Kline. When she was born her mother was already with Josiah and so saw him as her father. Born in April 1862 in Wolfsville, Maryland, Mary Catherine was raised along side her older sister and seven young half-siblings.
In the 1880 census Mary Catherine was sent to live with her grandmother Mary Linebaugh of Jackson, Frederick County, Maryland. Mary Catherine resided with her grandmother as a domestic laborer helping to maintain the home and land for her.
The 1900 Census shows that Mary Catherine lived in the Catoctin District of Frederic, Maryland. Sadly it indicates that Mary Catherine was widowed. She had given birth to five children but unfortunately had lost one child. Her remaining children being: Estella C, Elmer H, Carrie O, and Virginia M.
On the 1910 Census Mary Catherine can be found living in Manassas, Virginia, with her daughter Carrie. It was there in Manassas that they worked as farm laborers on a general farm.
Unfortunately the 1920 Cenus has not yet been located for Mary Catherine Williams.
The 1930 Census shows that Mary Catherine lived in New Windsor of Carroll County, Maryland. It was here that she lived with her second husband, William Sonafrank, a carpenter.
There is no information of Mary Catherine's first husband, James Henry Willet Williams who passed away March 27, 1896 and is buried at Oak Woods Cemetery in Illinoise.
On March 19, 1937, the Carroll County Times posted that Mary Catherine's second husband had passed away March 19, 1937 from failing health after having previously suffered from a stroke. He left behind five children from his first marriage: George, Elizabeth Russell, Syla Grosham, and Stella Sonafrank. He was laid to rest at Sams Creek Church of the Brethren in New Windsor, Maryland
The Carroll County Times printed on October 4, 1951 that Mary Catherine Marker Williams Sonafrank had passed October 4, 1951 at her home in Syracuse, New York. Surviving are her children: Stella C Lawson, Virginia M Austin and Caroline W Gathman. She also left behind 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. Mary Catherine was buried at Sams Creek Church of the Brethren in New Windsor, Maryland.
